Between its social trading capabilities and impressive market variety, eToro is a broker that can appeal to the preferences of traders from far and wide. Its trading costs are straightforward as well, making it excellent for beginners. If you are eyeing eToro and wish to become familiar with this broker’s spreads, swaps, and other potential costs, this publication will be of interest.

eToro Trading Costs

At eToro, there are several account types you can choose from. The first one is the retail (personal) account. Its leverage limits are capped at either 1:30 or 1:400, depending on where a trader resides and the regulatory body that oversees their local financial sphere.

eToro features floating spreads, and the minimum spreads of some currency pairs can go as low as 1 pip. While eToro’s spreads are not the most competitive, many will appreciate the lack of commissions. We shall take EUR/USD as an example. If the pair’s current spread is at its lowest (1 pip), then we can find the cost per standard lot by multiplying the spread by 100,000 units. Since there are no commissions, the formula is as follows:

0.0001 x 100,000 = $10.

The formula is almost identical when it comes to trading micro lots, except you need to multiply the spread by 1,000 units:

0.0001 x 1,000 = $0.1

Here, you can see a breakdown of the costs of some of eToro’s currency pairs:

eToro also has an account type suitable for professionals. Professional eToro clients can take advantage of higher leverage, and this is one of the reasons opening such an account is no easy task. You need to reside in the UK or Europe and meet two of three criteria in order to be eligible:

  • Having carried out at least 10 significant transactions per quarter over the last four quarters
  • Have a portfolio of over €500,000
  • Have no less than one year of professional experience in the financial sector

There is also an Islamic account, which differs from the rest thanks to its lack of overnight fees. Last but not least, we have eToro’s Corporate account, which is not for individual clients but for legal entities that utilize their business capital to trade.

All of the options described thus far are live trading accounts. If you wish to practice and learn the basics of trading without putting your real money at stake, you can enable eToro’s virtual trading mode. It comes with $100,000 in demo funds.

Besides forex traders, eToro caters to individuals who are interested in trading stocks, ETFs, commodities, indices, and cryptocurrencies as well. Stocks happen to be the only instruments at eToro that involve commissions. As eToro is largely known for its crypto offerings, we wish to highlight that the broker charges a mere 1% when it comes to buying and selling cryptocurrencies.

eToro Overnight Funding Costs

Overnight rates are the interest that is charged or paid when it comes to CFD positions that are kept open overnight. These rates may also be called rollover or swap fees, and they can be negative or positive. The latter refers to positions that end with the trader being paid interest, and they occur when the bought currency has a higher interest rate than the sold currency.

eToro applies overnight rates at 21:00 GMT on a daily basis. During daylight savings, fees are charged or paid at 22:00 GMT. Forex enthusiasts should keep in mind that overnight rates are tripled when it comes to positions that have been held over Sunday and Saturday. This charge is carried out on Wednesdays when it comes to forex.

The broker has stressed that swap fees are not set in stone and may be affected by global conditions. Thus, one should always double-check the rates that are listed on a given date and plan their actions accordingly. You can see the swap rates that were published on February 5th, 2025, below:

Swap-Free Trading Costs at eToro

According to Sharia law, earning and paying interest is prohibited, making ordinary trading accounts unsuitable for Muslim traders. With this in mind, eToro provides swap-free accounts that do not involve swaps and instead charge clients administration fees after a seven-day grace period. These fees vary depending on the currencies that are a part of a given pair and can range from $10 to $20. As weekend rollover rates are tripled, this results in triple the administration fee for Muslim traders as well. Three-day admin fees are charged on Wednesdays.

eToro Non-Trading Costs

A number of fees that are not directly tied to trading will also play a role in the overall cost of using an eToro account. While eToro has neither deposit charges nor costs tied to the opening of an account, a $5 fee may apply when one decides to withdraw. eToro will impose this fee if the trader has a USD account and cashes out to an external account. In contrast, EUR account withdrawals are free, and the same applies to GBP accounts:

Account Opening FeesFree
Inactivity Fees$10 per month after 12 months of inactivity*

VPS Hosting SubscriptionNo VPS hosting

* Here, inactivity refers to failure to log into one’s account

There are no management fees, and as eToro does not offer a virtual private server (VPS) hosting service, you will not need to worry about VPS-related charges either. Take care to log into your account on a regular basis, however, as there is a $10 monthly fee that is charged if an account has been inactive for 12 months. In addition to the aforementioned costs, eToro also charges conversion fees. You can find more about them in the following section.

Currency Conversion Fees

The default account currency at eToro is USD, with EUR and GBP being available in Europe and the UK, respectively. Under certain circumstances, eToro clients will be levied a conversion fee. Deposits and withdrawals tied to USD accounts, for instance, involve conversion fees if the currency does not match the user’s account currency. For example, if you use a bank card, the conversion fee tied to the Swiss Franc is 1%, while using PayPal or another digital wallet results in a conversion fee of 150 pips. Asset transfers between accounts with different currencies will also require conversion and, thus, lead to charges.

You can check out eToro’s conversion fees in the table below. Keep in mind that the charges can be subject to change. Thus, it is important to consult eToro’s Conversion Fees page to make sure that you are up to date on the costs you might incur whenever you decide to execute transfers.

Closing Thoughts on eToro Fees

Our team was overall impressed with eToro’s fee structure. While the absence of commission-based trading might be an issue for some veteran traders, novices are likely to appreciate the lack of commissions and how straightforward the trading costs are in general. Deposits are fee-free which is always a plus, and a modest $5 is charged when it comes to some withdrawal transactions.
