FP Markets stands out by being a low-cost broker that boasts a range of top-notch platforms, numerous markets, and licenses issued by reputable regulators like CySEC and ASIC. While these characteristics have made FP Markets the go-to broker for numerous forex enthusiasts the world over, it is crucial to familiarize oneself with its fee structure before diving in. Below, you will find a thorough overview of how much it costs to trade currency pairs at FP Markets.

FP Markets Trading Costs

FP Markets offers two trading models to its customers in the form of the Standard and Raw account types. If you go with the first one, you will be able to trade with spreads from 1 pip. As all trading costs are built into the spread, Standard users do not need to pay additional commissions. In contrast, the Raw account does involve a commission of $3 per side. However, this account type also features spreads that can go as low as 0.

Standard Account Trading Costs

If you have a standard account, the cost per standard lot can be calculated by multiplying the spread value by the position size. In the case of EUR/USD, for example, we need to take the spread value of 0.00012 and multiply it by the 100,000 currency units of a standard lot. This results in a cost of $12. We should also note that the figures in question relate to an account with the USD as its base currency.

Trading micro lots is the more budget-friendly option. To check the exact cost, you can multiply the spread value by 1000 currency units. Thus, for the EUR/USD pair with a spread of 1.2 pips, we get the following result: 0.00012 x 1000 = $0.12.

The following table provides insight into the costs of a range of popular currency pairs:

Raw Account Trading Costs

As established, we need to take the broker’s commissions into consideration when trying to determine the costs of trading with an FP Market Raw account. The EUR/USD pair will once again serve as an example.

As the pair’s Raw spread is an average of 0.1 pips, this means we need to multiply the 0.00001 pip value by 100,000 currency units to get the initial cost: 0.00001 x 100,000 = $1

Now, we simply add the $3 commission, resulting in a total cost of $4. By using the same method, we can see that trading AUD/USD and GBP/USD involves average costs of $5 and $7, respectively, if you decide to create an FP Markets Raw account.

When it comes to the cost per micro lot, we will once again multiply the 1,000 currency units by the spread: 0.00001 x 1,000 = $0.01

We thus get an initial cost of $0.01. Then, by dividing the standard commission per lot by 100, we end up with a commission per micro lot of $0.03. Adding up these figures results in an average cost of $0.04.

Swap-Free Trading Costs at FP Markets

According to Sharia Law, forex swaps are considered Haram and are thus prohibited. Muslim forex enthusiasts are unable to participate in currency trading when it involves holding positions overnight, and this, in turn, has created a demand for forex brokers that can address this issue.

FP Markets offers two Sharia-compliant accounts: the Islamic Account and the Islamic Raw account. Both involve administration fees instead of swap rates, and their respective market selections include forex, commodities, indices, shares, and cryptocurrencies.

Here, you can see the administration fees that apply:

FX Markets Islamic Account Admin Fees
Currency PairAdmin Fee in USD (per lot, per night)Grace Period
EUR/USD$55 nights
USD/JPY$155 nights
EUR/GBP$50 nights
GBP/USD$25 nights
AUD/USD$35 nights
USDCAD$35 nights
USD/CHF$105 nights
USD/CNH$50 nights
NZD/USD$15 nights

The grace period refers to how long clients can hold a given position before the administration fee is applied. For example, if you hold a EUR/USD position for six days, you will only be charged $5 for the sixth day. Any subsequent days will also be subject to the fee if you continue to hold. In addition, FP Markets has clarified that the admin costs are not tripled on Wednesdays or Fridays.

Closing Thoughts on FP Markets Fees

All in all, FP Markets has a relatively straightforward fee structure. The spreads are reasonable, as are the commissions. Plenty of traders will also be pleased that FP Markets will waive monthly VPS fees if the given user meets the eligibility requirements. What might catch even some experienced traders off-guard, however, is FP Markets’ platform fee. This type of cost is not common, but as mentioned previously, it affects only one of FP Markets’ platforms.
